Jasper Place Community Amenities & Features:

The subdivisions within the Jasper Place area include Elmwood, Glenwood, Jasper Park, Lynnwood, Meadowlark Park, Oleskiw, Patricia Heights, Quesnell Heights, Rio Terrance, Sherwood, West Jasper Place, West Meadowlark Park, and Westridge.

Although the settlement of the Jasper Place area dates back to the early 1900's, the actual incorporation of this suburb into an Edmonton annex happened in the mid 1960's. Before this incorporation, the area had a hamlet status and population growth within this section eventually led to the change in municipal distinction.

Jasper Place has roots as a farming community, and has since evolved with the changing industry of the Edmonton area. Early growth to this region was encouraged through transportation, with trolleys that ran from downtown into this western suburb. This still holds true with the Meadowlark Transit Centre providing extensive bus service and connections, as well as access to the Belgravia LRT Station.

As industrial fabrication and oil refinement took economic precedence over agriculture, Jasper Place also became the home to more residents who drawn to the area by employment opportunities. This suburb includes a productive industrial region to the north of the residential and business hub, and inhabitants in Jasper Place are as likely to work directly in the area as they are to work in the city.

Communities within Jasper Place are strongly family and neighborhood oriented, with a strong educational system and high community league involvement. Schools within this space can give parents the choice of public, private, and alternative teaching methods. Institutions of the locale include Jasper Place High School, St. Francis Xavier School, and Glendale School. Daycare centres and after school care also figure highly into local services for children.

Jasper Place has a strong suburban feel and incorporates many parks into its communities, along with shopping and entertainment for residents and visitors. Mayfield Common is within the area, while the West Edmonton Mall is a popular attraction just to the west. Laser Quest is another destination for games and amusements, while the Bill Hunter Arena has sporting events and community activities. TELUS World of Science is also nearby, with interactive exhibits for children and adults.

This area of Edmonton has also been part of a city wide renewal project which began in 2013. The efforts have helped to delegate more parklands and recreation facilities for the region, and to accommodate for greater safety and pedestrian comforts with the renovation of walkways and trails. The revitalization has increased the desirability of Jasper Place as a comfortable place to live and has also encouraged construction of shopping amenities within the communities.

The Jasper Place area has a founded history as a part of the larger Edmonton area and continues to give residents an alternative to city living. This aspect of the Jasper Place legacy is expected to continue into the coming decades.
